Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
Hi! It's Koie again and I am here to share one of my all-time favorite places to hike. I love going to the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge. It's not only close to my home, but it is a true hidden jewel. It's a wilderness comprised of forests, prairies, and wetlands reminiscent of how the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex once looked. It is one of the largest city-owned nature centers in the United States with more than 20 miles of hiking trails and offers a variety of education programs and hikes for individuals, schools and families.
The trails are very diverse including marshes/wetland area and fields and parts of the trails are on the banks of Lake Worth. There is a lot of wildlife, wild flowers and native plants. I've heard there are even gators, but I sure haven't seen one. Thank goodness!! When you visit be sure to spend some time with the buffalo or kayaking in the lake. There is a kayak launch area with plenty of parking, and the trails are plenty shaded so even when it's hot it's still a very enjoyable hike. Please be sure to say hi if you see me!
